Research You Ignored And Wished You Hadn't

When I first got pigeons, I only got a couple, and was told not to let them out of their pen unless I got a larger flock. I thought it would be like free ranging chickens, but I was wrong, and I lost one of my pigeons the first time I tried to let them “free fly”. I now have a larger flock, but keep them in a closed aviary, and they are very happy.

I also regret not setting up a rooster-only pen sooner.

I learned that chicken math is a real thing. This spring I hatched out another patch of quails and decided to throw in a couple of chicken eggs. Just for fun. I didn't actually think those would hatch as the eggs were at least couple of weeks old and kept it fridge. But all three started to develop and 2 hatched. Now I have 2 two week old chicks, boy and girl. I can't keep one hen together with one roo and in winter time they don't produce enough body heat. So I asked a box of hatching eggs from a nice lady who gave me two instead. I have new eggs in bator and if I get successful hatch rate, I need to start to think about expanding my coop 😬
