Hi all, we were told this was a Rhode Island Red - thoughts? Also, purchased straight run so interested to get any thoughts on whether it may be male or female. (I know it’s kind of early, but I have a plan B to rehome one cockerel if needed - hoping there are not more than one In our group of 4 ☝️) Thanks!

Im thinking pullet too.

We have Rose Comb RIR pullets that are 1 year old. Here they are at approx 3 weeks and 5.5 weeks for comparison:

Notice at the 5.5 weeks, they are actually getting a tiny bit of wattle growth and color. Different comb than yours.

Did you have them as day old chicks? If you did, females usually hatch with a row of feathers and males come out with just fuzz. If you got them as week olds, females usually have two rows now, and males have one. Another way is males usually have their feathers even, while females have long ones and short ones.

We didn’t hatch them, my husband bought them at TSC. Here he/she at what would have been between 7-12 days approximately.

They look pretty even, but there's a few rows. The fact there are four rows suggests pullet, but they're really even. Also according to one website, rhode island reds are hatched with a white spot in their "elbow" that gos away as they grow. I'll attach an elbow diagram lol. Again that's one website. I don't see one, and in the first picture there's no sign of a waddle and the comb is tiny. Everything points to pullet except the even-nes.

Here's that diagram. The dot is where the little spot would be.
