So the little wire.. cage bottom thing in the bator is kinda flimsy and doesn't provide a very stable surface. I set the eggs very carefully, keeping them evenly balanced, all x's facing up.. got 'em! They stayed put. Then I put the lid on and just that shook 'em up enough enough that several rolled over.. ARGH! Okay, we can't have that!

For now I just put a couple egg carton lids in there, and have them laying inside those on their sides. Its a little bit awkward though, and I'm not totally confident in that as a long term solution. So, what kinds of things would make a good egg..holder/supporter/roll preventer? And probably equally important, what would make a bad holder? One thing I thought of (and would be pretty cute) was paper muffin liners, but then I wasn't sure because they're so flimsy, would they do the job? Or what about a silicone muffin "tin"? (I'm assuming metal would not be good!)

B-b-but.. that doesn't satisfy my OCD! All X's up!..and then later.. all O's up!

Its my first time. I'm a little bit of a "helicopter incubator mom" *checks temp*

I'm going to be making myself crazy.

X's and O's were a part of incubation.... You are now in Hatching. I don't like hatching in holders, first it isn't quite natural. Secondly if you have a ruptured air sac you can have problems. Another is if they pip on the wrong end.

Mother nature made the design of the egg a wonderful thing. By design, the pointy end is always lower than the blunt end. She has been hatching eggs long before the incubator was invented.

Also... Just wait till you have a few hatch... They will be playing Chick Soccer all over the place with the other eggs, their old shells, and will make a BIG OLE Huge mess in your bator. If you hatch goes over 2-3 days...just wait till you take the lid off... That smell of egg gunk, mixed in water, brewed over a day or two at 99.5 degrees... MMMM...

You must have an LG.... Here's a tip... Get some of that spongey material that people put in their drawers or shelfs.. Shelf liners I believe it is what it is called. Will help keep that wire rack down, and keep the eggs from rolling all over the place. You have 18 days until chaos starts..

Oh, that sounds perfect! Gosh I wonder if there's some kicking around the house somewhere. If not, I'm sure its cheap. I assume LG=little giant? Yep, thats the one. Lookin forward to the babies, and my kids' excitement at seeing them hatch! I just realized that they're "due" on my son's birthday (he'll be 2) It seems kinda perfect.. with the birthing memories still fresh in my mind (good ones!) I'll get to watch a whole different kind of birth. I'm visualizing birthday cupcakes decorated like chicks!
