I have six chicks that are 8 weeks old (littlest on will be 8 weeks on Wednesday). I have questions about my Barred rocks. Need help figuring out if what they are. The color difference and the size are quite stunning to me. The smallest one is 1/4 Easter Egger. It is the only one hatched from my coop. Tried with 4 eggs: 2 broke and 1 infertile.

2, 3, 5, 6 look to me like cockerels. The rest look like pullets.

😅, oh sorry I didn't see someone already answered.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for your help and confirmation. These pictures are all of the two birds in question. My other chicks are Golden Comet and Wellsummer. (two of each breed). I was just trying to get good enough pictures so they could 'show their stuff'

The size and color of the smaller one are due to the genetics of the EE grandparent. It is not a true Barred Rock, just a black barred bird.

With that comb and wattles that darker bird is a cockerel. There is no doubt of that one. I'm getting mixed signals on the other one. Having wattles at 8 weeks is a sign that it could be a boy but the pale color of the comb and wattles says it might be a girl. The thick heavy legs says maybe a boy. That looks like an upright posture which says maybe a boy but its body composition is so rounded I can't tell for sure. I'm leaning toward both being boys but I'm not certain on the smaller one.
