I am looking to add a roosting bar in my coop. The only wall I can add it on has my nest boxes. The nest box is on the outside of the coop so the opening is flush with the side of the coop. But for a few reasons I collect eggs from in the coop. I would like to put the roosting bar above the nest boxes but I want to be able to flip it up so I don't hit my head on it when collecting eggs.
I would put a 2x4 out a bit and then the roosting bar on that so it isn't right up against the wall. But any idea how I can do it so it can flip up? Do I use hinges? if so what kinds?????? I have tried searching and only see ladder roosting bars that can flip up so my brain just isn't working to figure out how to get just a single bar on 2x4's to flip up.....

This is from my camera so looking at it more from the side. I will get a picture of it from the front tomorrow. I am looking to add it where the red line is, or around there. I figured it I put a couple 2x4 coming out from the wall like 10" or so then the 2x4 across those for the roost it would work but no clue what to attach it with that I can pick it up so I don't hit my head, or anyone else that may collect eggs, standing up after getting the eggs.

10" is too close to the wall. You will have poop on the wall and in the nesting boxes. I'll wait for you to get better pics, but it does look like it will be tricky since you don't have a perpendicular wall close by to take the weight of the roost.

ok. I am planning on using feed bags, tarp or something to do a hammock type of poop board that I can attach to the wall and end of the 2x4 that stick out to hopefully catch MOST of the poop. let me see if I can find the older pictures of the coop from when I was building it or adding the brooder.

I just had a crazy idea so I had to draw it. The two brackets on the left and right are fixed. The roost is only attached to the middle bracket and rests on the left and right brackets in the normal position. The middle bracket is loosely bolted to the middle stud so it can pivot upwards and out of the way.

Oh so use a bolt in the middle one and have it rest on 2 end ones.... That would probably work.

Here are a couple of older pics of the spot. There is now a roost in the corner that isn't in this pic.
