I have a rooster thats not even a year old. We have 2 total and one of them was killed by a possum and raccoon and since he wouldn't leave the hen house. The other day he did get out and flew the fence and now is just standing with his head down and tail down. Not responding much to noise. What should I do? If he's sick I want him away from the girls but if maybe it's something i have done then I want to correct it. Please any advice will be welcome.

Hi. I have an Australorp Rooster who has been raised with another rooster and many hens. Last week his rooster mate was killed by a racoon and possum. Since then he wouldn't leave the hen house but yesterday he decided to come out and he flew the fence and he's acting weird. I tried posting pictures earlier but it wouldn't allow my pics to be attached. He is standing with his tail and head down and not responding when I make noise or come outside. I'll bring him in tonight into our garage with a heat lamp bc it's cold. Anyone know or have advice on what I should do?

How old is he, and what do you feed him? A huddled chicken means a sick chicken.

Feel his crop. Does is feel impacted?
Pick him up if you can, and give him a good look-over. Is it a possibility that he was injured when the predator attacked?

Chickens have feelings of sadness, loneliness, and despair, fear . Just love him as much as you can.

Less than a year old. Scratch grains and layer pellets. Fresh water everyday. No injuries. Crop is normal. Still let's me pick him up.
