Do your neighbors mind the crowing or are they fine with it?

Hey there, I was just wondering about other people's rooster plans? I'm not allowed to have a rooster where I live and I'm going to try my best to keep him (by bribing the neighbors with eggs from my hens) but if that doesn't work out then I'll have to find him a new home. Does anyone have suggestions about where to look when trying to find a new home for their rooster(s)?

Try someone out where they are allowed to have roosters, they will probably be the most likely to take him. You could try hatcheries I guess, IF he is a breed that they carry. Another thing is if your neighbors don't like the crowing, you could get him a no-crow rooster collar. Here is what one looks like: https://tse4.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.xyfJc0ZzERFt8d7hPOPcCAEsEs&pid=15.1&P=0&w=300&h=300
Here is what they look like on a chicken: https://tse3.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.b2pVlZBiGVo5y2GsW7ggeQEsCo&pid=15.1&P=0&w=301&h=170
All that these do is keep the rooster from opening his airways all the way wen he wants to crow, thus a much quieter crow. (Sorry if you already knew about collars, I just thought I would share, just in case).

If I couldn't keep roosters I would buy adult hens. Also, if I had to rehome my roosters I would look at a person's coop and I wouldn't just give them away for free, I would have a rehoming fee.

If you do end up being able to keep your rooster and end up with too many (I have 8 roos and 8 hens) after hatching or buying straight run chicks, you could try a rooster flock. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/rooster-flocks.1174877/

List him at your local feed store, and ask the employees if they know of anyone needing a cockerel. Not sure of where you are but ask on your state/regional thread in the Where are you? forum. You can try your local humane society if the take livestock, though I know my local one is positively inundated with male poultry. Craigslist as a last resort.

It isn't easy in most places to find a "good home" for oops cockerels.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've got a no-crow collar ordered and should be on its way so I'm hoping that will help and I will be able to keep him!
