I have been putting vitamins and apple cider vinegar in their water daily. I have sprayed his comb and waddles twice with vetericyn. I do not see mites but I have to look quick! Can they get hoarse? Dont think its gapeworm. He isnt opening his beak. I read that frostbite can be painful. Any suggestions are appreciated!

Can you post photos?

Frostbite is painful, I would not apply anything to the comb or wattles, don't handle the damage tissue at all. Spraying them in cold weather can exacerabate the Frostbite and lock in more moisture making it worse.

He's shaking his head because his comb probably feels like it stings.

You are saying he isn't opening his beak? Are you trying to open his beak?

My blue copper maran roo has frostbite on the comb tips and a bit on his waddles too. He also shakes his head more often so I can only assume it is due to a bit of discomfort. Feel bad for the guy but I can’t really do anything for him. Frostbite is more of a wait and see kind of thing. I would suggest doing a bit more to help keep the coop dry, humidity in freezing temps seems to make it worse.

Unfortunately we are heading towards negative temps again and it’s supposed to last about 3 days. They’ll just have to bare with it but I’ll also be removing droppings in the coop to limit the humidity so as to limit the frostbite.
