Hello, we have a few roosters in our flock (accidentally) but we love them so we have separate enclosures. One single rooster fights gladiator style with everyone else so he lives in this cottage on property we turned into his coop. We let him hang out outside when we are home and he just walks around the porch, hangs out with barn cats and bunnies, it works. Well he made his way up to one of the enclosures that had our two silkie boys and we heard a commotion, ran out and they were all bloody-through the fence. Everyone seems to be okay except one of the silkies, but I don’t believe this is entirely due to the fight. Today both of his eyes were sealed shut. We did a saline wash and they open and look clear but his head looks so dry and his face looks like it has lost come color and he generally looks slackluster. The other silkie looks fine. I’m posting a photo. We sprayed an anti-parasite on his body and I used the saline on his eyes but I’m worried….even his feathers are all brown and dirty like he hadn’t cleaned himself…

I would use a warm wet wash cloth wrung out, as a compress on his eyes for a few minutes to soften the eye secretions, and get them cleaned up. Use either Terramycin or plain Neosporin triple antibiotic ointment in both eyes twice a day. His wounds should heal on their own in time, but ointment may help as well. Do you know if he is molting, or is all the feather loss on his neck due to the fighting? Make sure to offer food and water up to his beak 2-3 times a day since he may not be able to see well. Moistened chicken feed and softened egg are good for him.

Okay, thank you so much. I appreciate it, I don’t believe he is molting at this time, his head/neck feather issue I believe is from the fighting but I don’t know for sure…
