I would love to have so many acres however we found a house on 1.49 with the option to by over 36 more acres surrounding it over time. That we can do. It is a township in Montmorency County. I called the zoning guy just to be sure and even he has chickens! We have 50 acres, zoned agricultural, in Shiawassee county, and can have any livestock, no problems. It was a priority for us to be in a rural area, zoned agricultural, and wouldn't do anything else.
Moving to an area not zoned agricultural, just don't do it. Look for land first, and realize that a big house on a small lot might not be a perfect fit, if you want poultry of any sort.

And our place, house, barn, and workshop, cost what that big house on a small lot would have cost the same year.
