Marek's can remain in the soil for a while. When I had the necropsy done, the state vet was amazing and gave me a ton of info about what to do, what not to do, and how to move forward. I'm taking all the precautions and also only purchasing vaccinated chicks from here on out.Sorry about your flock.
Do those diseases lurk in the soil?
We have a small farm (bees, berries, layers and meat birds, etc) so having chickens is a huge part of our lives, and with minor changes on how we do things, I'm fairly confident that we can still have our beloved hens. Thankfully, we live very remotely on acreage so, with the proper precautions, there's little risk of spreading it around. Not even sure how we got it in the first place, but many viruses like Marek's and parasites have become endemic.
Keep moving forward, eh?
