I have been feeding my birds since day one with chick starter/grower bought from rural king and they have got sooo big over time that im in the middle of switching them to layer crumbles. I was wondering if anyone else was feeding their flock with Rural king feed and how that's working out for you??

As far as the poop goes, i have noticed that about near 50% of the poo is somewhat runny/liquidy/ Where as the other 50% is the normal white tipped poo. Im new to raising chicken's and im not sure what the average size poo is suppose to be with chickens so any help in that department would be fantastic lol

really??? wow. Layer feed is 8 bucks for a 40lb bag and chick starter is 9.50 for a 40lb bag. Now since im job-less at the moment that is great for me...but it's about my chickens and their helth first and formost. I see people talk about Purina. Where do i buy it at?? And i only thought Purina made dog/cat food?? lol

You might pay a little more for Purina feed than you do for the feed mill and agricultural stores. Sometimes it is a waste of money buying cheap feeds and your birds dont utilize the feed as well.

Purina makes all kind of feeds for livestock. We use them on the farm, with cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens and horses and peacocks.

The 50# Layena cost me about ten dollars and the Flock Riser would be around 12 to 15. Chick Starter would be 15 dollars for a 50# bag.

Look up on website for your local Purina feed dealer.

thanks!!! i was reading that purina "Layena" or however you spell it...lol..was a vegatarian based feed. How does that make a diff. from what I have been feeding all along?? If i were to switch...i wouldn't want my birds to "freak out" with this new food. And isin't it in "pellet" form too?

No your birds wont freak out LOL!

They have pellets and crumbles, give them a call and see if they have what you are looking for!

Purina as far it works for me, being feeding to all my animals for over 40 years, I noticed the difference.

Rural King, their feed are cheap but the poo and feed consumption was higher and it stinks.

Purina Layer, the feed are mid or high cost but the feed is less consumption and poo less and it does not stink. The poos are more solid than the runny kind.

Yes it is vegetarian based feed but I give my girls some scraps of meat or fish grounded up well and cooked well. They loved it!

I am coordinating a KingFeed order for the SF Northbay Area. My husband and I make and sell chicken coops and have a delivery on 05/21 that will allow us to pick up this awesome stuff. I am asking that if you want it picked up that it be prepaid with the store prior to us picking it up. Pick ups are available at my house on the 22nd and I am asking for $3.00 for handling and delivery due at time of pick up per order.
