Do safflower seeds have a sufficient amount of protein for growing chickens? I want to mix them in with a cheap low protein mash in an effort to save some $$$.
Would you recommend this or should they only be used as treats?

Thanks

When I googled it awhile ago I found 15% protein, but you can look at my BYC page for a link to look it up on an official site if you wish.

My chickens have eaten them as a part of the feed (but only very briefly) as I bought a small expensive package to try.

Baby chicks need 20% protein, and when they are on grower feed they should be around 17%. Layers need 16-20% protein.

click on the "more information" tab above the box and it says 16% protein...I have had trouble in the past with protein %ages- different sources saying different percentages.

If you are depending on that 26% for your feed, I would carefully check other sources to make sure. I have been going on 16% after some BYC'ers told me it was only 16% and I found it when I googled. Prior to that, I was assuming it was much higher due to another website.

I DO like the Lionsgrip website though and have used it many times.
