Okay, this is a constant debate at every dinner table (well, at least when I'm there

You have TWO shakers that are identical in EVERY WAY except for the size of the holes. Which goes into the shaker with bigger holes, the salt or the pepper.

You must reply with an answer and WHY you selected the smaller / larger holes.

Pepper has the bigger holes because pepper is denser and won't come of the little holes. If you put salt in the one with the bigger holes it will pour out all over your food. while your taste buds may love it your heart will not.

I can't believe I am answering this.

ETA: If it is the difference between 2 holes or three holes, salt goe sin the three holes.

I would like my pepper in the shaker with the larger holes because I like the coarsely cracked stuff- not the powder. That said- my salt shaker would also need larger holes than normal because I like kosher salt.

That is the way I was always taught, because over-peppering a dish can ruin it faster, for more palates, than over-salting. And if you notice, in S&P sets that are labeled as such, you'll see that even when the holes are all the same size, the salt-shaker will have more holes.

Or you could do the only truly proper thing, and get a peppermill and use fresh whole peppercorns.

ETA: I do not put salt-shakers on my dinner table. Pepper may be personal, but by golly, as far as salt is concerned, I've seasoned it perfectly by the time you're eating it.
