Scabs on Body

Hi there! I noticed one of my barred rocks was just not quite as active as she normally is. She’s still in good spirits, eating and drinking and her comb is nice and red. She was just a little less active than her normal. I started checking her out and noticed two or three of these dried up scabs. She’s vaccinated for foul pox and Mareks. Which I know is not 100% effective. It doesn’t look like dry pox to me. Anybody know what this could possibly be and do I need to keep her separated? Thanks for your help!

Has she had mites? I had chickens that had the exact same thing. It was dead skin buildup for mite houses. Are they on tight? Are they covering a wound?

I was just dealing with lice nits and I have treated all of them. Right now it’s pretty loose where you can just pull it off. No active mites or lice at this time but I was just battling that so maybe that’s the issue.

I would guess its that then. When mine had it I just pulled it all off and now there's some red scaring, but its from the mites. lice I think is similar. Have you seen under it?

Yes, the scabs are so old when you pull them off it almost looks like a hole like wound in the body that does not look infected almost just like a scar. I’ve only found two of them so far, but they are nowhere near where she had lice so that is a little confusing as well! Thank you for the info!

Hmmm. Mine were just red but ormal skin underneeth them. I would look for more, add antibiotic cream to them.
