SEALING the nesting boxes

yep caulk the tops of the windows, but instead of flashing, use a piece of rubber along the top of your next boxes. run the rubber up under the siding where it meets the next box. use the rubber instead of metal flashing to allow for movement of the nest box door. that should get you on the way to dryness.

Thanks... I have some rubber there now but it isn't under the molding yet. My DH and I will go out in the rain and put a tarp over it for now, wait for things to dry out and then start caulking. In the meantime, is it OK for my chicks to be out there? They're 4 weeks old and have 2 heat lamps to keep warm. They have an 8x6 area of which maybe 2-3sq ft is wet... just wet enough to make the shavings moist (no puddling or serious dripping) Can they stay out there or should I bring them into the house and put them back in their brooder (I wonder if the brooder's even big enough anymore

Thanks for all the replies! I hope to get this fixed as soon as possible. Of course they're calling for 3-4 more inches of RAIN tonight

Thanks everyone for all your great ideas on sealing our nesting boxes/windows. We used some of them on our coop after it dried out from the last storm and today is the first time it's been put to the test... we are bone DRY in the coop today and it's been raining ALL day long! I'm so happy and thankful for all your great ideas!
