Hi all,
I was wondering what the best way is too make my seed feed into mash?
I was also wondering if chickens like eating the shell of the peas? The bag of seed feed I just received from New Country Organics has a lot pea shells in it. I mixed it but they still leave what they don't want in the bowl.
Here's a picture of what I have and am trying to make mash out of.
All the the little white things are the shells from the "balls"/ peas .

Thank you !

Welcome to Chickenlandia has a vid on fermenting seed feed, she gets Scratch & Peck feeds so it's very similar to your feed that you have.... Fermenting feed is similar to making mash but with fermenting you let it sit for 3 days if you haven't fermented before :D
If you don't want to ferment, I bet if you just wanted to make mash then you could probably let it sit for a few extra minutes than you would regular feed since it's denser if that makes sense:)

I don't really want to ferment. :)
I am just soaking it in the morning and giving them it in the evening. Will take a look at the video!

no they don't like the shells, even after fermenting. Mine have learned to shell them themselves, and leave the shells at the feeding station.

Edited to add, I don't think much of a feed that includes a lot of shells. It suggests it includes a lot of 'by-products' - the waste streams from other food/feed processing lines, instead of including the peas themselves. The bag of peas n seeds I buy looks like this

Thank you! This is they reply I was waiting for:)

fermented grain, peas, seeds do not. They have a very feint pleasant yeasty smell. I guess it's all those additives and mystery ingredients in homogenised feed that stink.
I noticed mine smells like oatmeal . never smelled stinky .
