Seizures

It was a responsibility lesson for my 11 and 7 year old , chores and such , they found out that playing the wii u takes up alot of their time and in the end killed two ducks and I always ask are the ducks fed and watered and the answer was yes .. so If i knew they didn't have water I would have stepped in but when I found the one dead and the other having seizures it was too late

That's very sad, when my kids were young like that they had chores too but I always went behind to make sure the dogs & cats had water and food, It's just too easy for them to say yes and not mean it. Thank goodness there was no wii back then. Very hard way to learn valuable lessons. Hopefully it will make a difference next time.

one of my ducks died last night and now the second duck is having seizures , I started the epsom salt drink .

I have been feeding them the chick feeder/grower , unmedicated

I got them April 6th

I believe both died of dehydration

I'm sorry to hear about your two ducklings.

Just for others who come across this thread, epsom salt and other similar flushes cause dehydration. These are used to treat poisoning and intestinal tract blockage. When these treatments are used, an adequate amount of water must also be provided for the duck to undo the dehydrating effect of the flush.

So if dehydration is suspected rather than poisoning, do not use a flush. It's probably best to provide plain water or water with a small amount of poultry vitamins and electrolytes added.

Is the brand of feed Dumor? Around here that food has been killing peoples whole flocks. I just lost a gosling feeding Dumor starter/grower.

That's what I was thinking too!

Just read back on posts, I'd switch feed, that might be what is happening. I switched to Nature Wise Gamebird feed, my ducklings and remaining gosling have been fine since I switched, before I switched they were pretty sickly acting, wobbly on their legs, not very active and I had almost lost both my cayugas.

EDIT: Maybe get some Sav-A-Chick Electrolytes and Probiotics, dropper feed them that if they won't drink it.

This is because Epsom Salt is a laxative and pulls water from the cells which is then excreted and lost from the body.

I got 5 baby runner ducks on April 6. Saturday 1 of my runners started having seizures. Ive done everything from make sure shes not too hot. They have water non stop with vitamins and electrolytes. None of the other ducks are having seizures. So I don't know what to do. Any suggestions?

What are you feeding and are you offering B complex or niacin to your ducklings? Some ducklings need extra B's especially if eating chick feed which doesn't have the amount of niacin ducklings need.
