Serama hatch part 3 (and a few odds and ends!) Hatch a Long

@ElfenLied89 I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your back. I had a winter accident about 5 years ago (slid on ice… ended up with a concussion and seizures for about a year. And, I damaged a few discs. The seizures totally ceased, but I still get back pain 😣). I do agree with tlc, that maybe you should just break Dollys broodiness. It’s sad she didn’t get to enjoy raising her chicks. I hope she gets another chance to be a mommy. As I was saying in one of my earlier replies, Serama chicks can do fine brooding with some LF. Fluffy just brooded the Tsoulefates (sp?) and Serama together. Mine always do really well in small brood flocks, except for when I begin separation… there’s a lot of crying for their brooder mates. And, of course this ‘softy’ places them back together and prolongs the whole process. Since I have been hatching Seramas, LF, other Bantams, and King quail this season, I brood them all together in the groups they hatch with. The biggest issue for me is the King quail crying out so much for their chicken brood mates, that I have to try several attempts at separation before they finally accept being with their own species. I still have a Bobwhite male and Serama cockerel together, because they both freak out without the other one. I sometimes create more issues for myself than needed. But, I do staggered hatches of different breeds and species in very small numbers, and separating all of them just doesn’t make sense. Every year, I vow to not brood so many different breeds… but, I never keep my vow! 🤭 Hopeless.

Omg adorable little pair they must be. We need proof. Give us pics lol.

Dolly hatched out another baby! Tomorrow I am redoing the outside of the enclosure and will let the babies out of the brooder box. It's been super humid here and it is staying damp in there. One of the Seramas passed this morning. We also had a really really bad thunderstorm yesterday. Hail and all. It's been a crazy past few weeks.

I agree, if you don't have any chicks for her to mother, it's best to break her
I went outside this morning and there was a baby! I didn't know she was close to hatching! She still has two under her. I will check tomorrow if they have hatched. If not I might pull em out on Thursday? Friday? I want to wait and make sure they are duds.

Not the best photo, but here’s my Serama and Bobwhite boys, when they thought it would be cool to hop up on my shoulder to check out my earrings. ❤️ I’ll have to get a more up-to-date photo, since they’ve been feathering in quite well over the last few weeks.

Yay Miss Dolly! Such a good mommy. ❤️ I’m happy she has gotten another chance. I’m sorry to hear you lost a Serama chick. 😞 Always so sad to find one gone. Please post Dolly and chick photos when you find the chance to. Will love to see them!

Here is Dolly, Atropos, and the babies! The Seramas have wings bigger then their bodies.

I gave Dolly another baby today (which she accepted) that hatched last night. It has orange legs....but 5 toes! It's from my own flock so no clue what birds are mixed in lol. It seemed wobbly. I hope it thrives. I didn't want it alone. She heard the baby and came over trying to see what was up so she has 2 babies now. She must like adopting babies. She's amazing.
