"Sewing" together hardware cloth

I just bought two rolls of 36" x 100' 1/2 inch 19 gauge hardware cloth, if I need to, how do I sew it together? I'm thinking strong wire and stitch it where it may not meet with a 2x4, stapled and get covered by wood strips and screwed.

I am pretty crafty and would have no problem stitching it together where a seam needs to be. What have any of you done to solve this problem?

I sometimes use aluminum wire to do the deed, other times I just staple them together and cover them with wood strips method. Be sure you do not use a hand stapler! They won't hold up against much pressure, I use a air stapler with one and one-quarter staples to do mine. If you don't have one of those use screws and fender washers to attach the hardware wire. Pennys also seem to work and are cheaper than fender washers.

I make sure to use one and a half inch or larger furring strips to cover the joints, and lots of screws. Like I noted above, hand staplers are just not made to install hardware cloth, they are for holding up insulation prior to dry wall. Animals are strong and will push right through your install.

Anyway my thoughts and what I do, best to you in your choices.

I suggest not having seams between posts, instead build the run so that the posts are spaced according to the width of the net. If the posts are up already, a horizontal support between the posts might work, then you would install the net horizontally instead of vertically. Less cutting of the net too.

we overlapped by several squares and wire them every so often used 19 or so gauge wire and linemans pliers......
only thing I dislike about my 1/2 square hdwe cloth is... I cant push much thru the holes like some weed for them or bugs or worms or very few very( ruh hated white cabbage moths) etc can get thru
just my two cents worth

Thanks guys. I guess since I will have the cloth before we build I'll have to put some thought into it. I am gonna look for 19 gauge wire in case I need it. But can definitely space it out since I have a long roll
