Hi.

Two Black Copper Marans chicks born on MAY 31st :

I think they are tiny roosters : at 1-week-old, no feather was emerging from their tail... and I could be mistaken, but at 26-days-old, their comb looks kind of big...?
(It should mean they are boys, right?)

I'm hoping for at least one cockerel, so I hope they are boys... but the fact they still don't seem to have any copper coloured feather should mean they actually are girls...?

...Any help sexing them would be really appreciated.

Number 1 - the darker-faced chick :

This one has bigger and redder wattles than the other chick, so I'm pretty sure he is a boy.

Number 2 - the lighter-faced chick :

(...Thank you for your help.)

Your #1 chick looks like it's getting pink wattles already so likely a cockerel. I think the other may be as well but they are still very young.

The copper color will come in as they get older, I don't have BCMs but the red color on my cockerels starts coming in around 10 weeks old.

@wrathsfarm what do you think?

I agree. #1 is a cockerel and more than likely #2 is as well, another week or so will confirm.

Yes! I was so happy that in my shipped eggs the only chocolate to hatch was a cockerel! Now I can make SL chocolate pullets next spring to build my chocolate pen :celebrate

Super exciting news... I'll be following. ♥️:wee:ya

I know you've seen the pics of this guy.. but, I've got 1 little BCM man out of the 7 boys I've banded that's got the head spot.. hoping he's my golden boy from Kong x Betty.

Hello.

Thank you for answering!

I'm reassured at least one of them should be a boy...!
(I am not worried the two of them are, since I know I could easily re-home a Marans rooster.)

I actually thought the copper feathers started emerging earlier...?
(But these babies are my first Marans chicks ever, so I only know what I read or what I'm told...)

Okay...
I will post pictures as they grow, so we will know for sure!

It seems that they both are on my list for male unfortunately.

Not unfortunately : I would be happy for at least one of them to be a boy...
And luckily, if the two chicks are, it would be easy to re-home one of them...!
