HI,
Thanks in advance for help. This is my first experience with legbars and autosexing chicks, I have about 10 barnyard mix pullets/chicks and know that is a waiting game so i thought i’d give it a go with an autosexing breed. I’m not that patient lol. I bought 7 hatching eggs from a local farm and they are separated by breed, so all cream legbars. All eggs were a beautiful shade of blue and they are still hatching, seemed to do it in batches as they were laid over a few days, but set in incubator at the same time.
The first 3 hatched while i was sleeping and dried enough to take them out this afternoon. They all look female to me, but i don’t think i would be that lucky, because the other two that just hatched out are rather dark as well but still wet so its hard to tell. That would be astronomical to have so many females so i want to be sure I’m not just seeing what i want to see.
So, here are the pics of the dried chicks so far. I have them banded so i can tell the difference. The bands are next to them in the pics. I will post the next set of pics after the chicks finish hatching and are dry so their pattern can be seen better.

If they're 100% cream legbars, I would agree they all appear to be pullets.
I'm certainly no expert, but my understanding with CCL is the pullets have "chipmunk" stripes on the back, and are overall darker than the cockerels.

I'm not sure how noticeable a white/yellow spot on the head would be (it was obvious on my pullet from the top)

Thank you again, with the last 3 (one lone egg still in the incubator, but im thinking it won’t hatch im just giving it a few more days to be safe), it was a little more challenging to me. T=Yes, they are purebred cream legbars, at least that’s what i purchased them as. Hens on the property are kept segregated from each other by breed, so i have no reason to doubt that they are pure.
The green one is definitely a boy, he makes it easy. The red one and purple one are less clear to me and since this is first legbar hatch, id love opinions. I go back and forth about purple and red. Sometimes, i see females, sometimes males and then sometimes one of each. Since the previous females are so distinctly female, im tempted to call all them males but then i look at the male and see more defined stripes although they have a white spot on their heads too. And the “mascera” is less defined as well.

So you think purple is a female? Im 100% certain (as much as a newbie can be) that green is a male, but I go back forth with red and purple watching them run around the brooder. I can try to get better pictures if there’s something you want to see better. Thank you for your input.

Well I’m not a legbar expert (hatching my first dozen of them currently) but purple looks like it’s got the chipmunk pattern typical of legbar females

Agreed. Green is obvious. Purple appears to have chipmunk stripe, so pullet.
I assume red has 1 side pic (can't see the color band) and I'm also leaning cockerel for red if that side pic is him.

I don't know if you're planning on keeping cockerels? (I know many people can't.) But if you do plan on keeping a cockerel for hatching eggs, I'm assuming Green would be the better choice. Might pass on the correct autosexing coloring to future chicks maybe?

Green and red might be boys

That would be great. 2 roos and 4 hens would be awesome. Is there any other way to tell as they get a few days older or do i just have to wait for puberty and development of secondary characteristics?
