What sex is this Cream Legbar?

I have hatched some eggs from Cream legbar eggs, and have easily sexed most of the chicks. This one is a little tricky to me. It has the markings on the eyes, and no obvious white spot on the head, but the stripe down the back isn’t very pronounced. I am thinking girl, but wanted to come here and confirm. Thanks in advance for any help!

I feel like this is a mismarked female (could actually be mismarked male).

Either way, if you are breeding in future, I would not use this chick. If you have the adults, you might want to mark eggs, figure out who is producing unidentifiable chicks & remove those from your program.

That Rooster you kept doesn't really look like a Cream Legbar, probably why you're having trouble with your chicks and the sex-linked nature of them.

this link might help

Hi! Well the rooster and hen that are the parents of this rooster where purchased from Meyer Hatchery - and we keep our breeding hens and rooster in separate coops. So I'm pretty sure this is purebred. The white one was from the same hatch - same parents - and there were a variety of colors and markings on the roosters. Even the hens are a bit varied in color and markings as they mature. I'm not an expert - but I think it's probably because Cream Legbars are a hybrid to start with. The rooster that we got from Meyer Hatchery was almost all black.

Hmm. That's odd. Even w/ the project birds, no CLB should be black. I'm not fully knowledgeable about the genes that CLBs have. However, pretty sure a solid black bird isn't able to sire chicks that are seeable.

Hopefully others who ARE more knowledgeable.

The website for CLBs is no longer in existence. There were a couple of FB pages, but at least one has slowed way down (?) - Cream Legbar Club - appears not active since 2022. The other is Cream Legbar Breeders of America & it does seem to be active. I recognize some names from the original website.

There is at least one other page about the project colors. PJ Reinhard (? Spelling?) is one of the folks in the know regarding how the COLOR genetcs work - he was working on both blue CLB & pumpkin CLB. May be others, not sore. Candace Waldon worked with Opal CLB - now called either isabel or Isabella depending on base of Cream or Crele. Ruth Drinkard has been working with CLB birds for quite some time & believe she was one of the original founding members of CLB Club...

It wouldn't let me post w/ list of other FB pages on CLBs... ugh! I then lost 1/2 this post. Done for now.

I appreciate all the info - I never even thought of learning about CLB breeders and checking for a club. I shouldn't have said he was black - because he was very beautifully black and gray - but that was why I kept the more colorful rooster. Here's a picture of my previous Roo

I'm just a hobby breeder. I live in Baja California Mexico - in the Wine Valley, and am co-owner of a vineyard and bed and breakfast - where I live. Our Coop is a feature of the property - folks who come to our small restaurant love seeing the chickens, and last year I decided to start hatching to sell chicks. You can't really find purebred chicks here - and our colorful eggs sell well. (And we use our eggs for breakfasts at the restaurant.) I've learned so much from this site - it's the best! (My new brooder is behind those small doors - inside the coop but with doors to open for guests to see the chicks.
