Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

My opinion is that Shad did effective moderation when it's needed. He created and fostered possibly the best environment for the best thread on BYC. He is essential to this thread. It may be effortless on his part but some people are just good at certain things.

(I actually rather enjoy when Shad goes on a rant sometimes 🤣.)
His rants are excellent

I think it's partly due to reading a foreign language and to the fact that writing things down make them come out as if set in stone.
You are probably right, The English language is confusing. Within England alone, there are several different dialects, all English, but a Cockney may not understand a Yorkshireman and forget American English, it is like somewhere along the line, someone decided that we were going to adapt every English word so that it was different or contrary to England. The Egg Thief is easy to get going, I just have to ask where he put the "Aluminum foil". LOL

I have always thought when communicating in written form, that how you interpret someone's intent is more based on how you feel about what you are reading. Cultural or language differences can also play a part in how we perceive someone's written response. I try not read more into what people say and try to assume everyone is coming from a place of good intention.

Sporadic sunshine, two heavy showers but bearable at 6C.
These two, Fret and Sylph weren't enthusiastic about leaving the coop extension initially. Tull was first out when I opened the gate, Mow next, then a slightly reluctant Henry and 15 minutes later Fret and Sylph ventured onto the run and finally onto the field.

Come on ! All those of us who keep a thread know how much committment it takes to post daily, let alone keep it interesting.

And your pictures are, I believe, very likely not the main reason for which people follow you 🤣.
I follow this thread for the insight as well as the chick pics that are posted.

I think I am not the only one who enjoys getting to know others here, people we appreciate, even though we probably will never meet them in person. The thread has just the right amount of information balanced with humor, pathos, food, and TAX.

Two hours today. Not much above freezing with some sunshine.
Henry wasn't looking well when I arrived. He didn't stand at the gate waitng to come out and he didn't eat any of the food along with the others. The hens know he's not well. Sylph kept him company while the others went foraging. Fret didn't go far from Henry the entire afternoon.

Henry's dropping are usually very regular even when the hens droppings don't lok great. This is what I found when I looked.

That wet patch is Henry's droppings. Not at all like his usual.
Henry doesn't really like being handled and I very rarely pick him up. Today was an exception because I wanted to check him over for any vent, crop and problems and to look in his mouth. Absolutly no fuss when I picked him up and put him on my lap. Vent looked fine, good colour and condition. No external parasites apart from the leg mites which he's had most of his life it seems. Clean throat and inside beak although he does have a very small chip on his upper beak which I hadn't noticed before.
The inspection didn't take long and I thought once I had done he would stand up and jump off my lap. He closed his eyes and dozed instead for about ten minutes.:love

He did go out with Mow and Tull, even mated Mow who crouched for him a couple of times. Mow going to start laying again (?)

He ate a little froom the tray and some more from my hand later and ate a decent amount of the cooked rice and Brazil nut I took for them.

Hoping for the best for him.
