Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Great to hear your lifestyle changes got you away from medication Shad. And Henry had a better day yesterday. Good food and exercise are both important for the both of you.

Henry and you always reminds me of my Ini mini and myself and the days to come. Both getting at age too with less energy.

Ini mini my old lady.

Thanks. 🙏
Haven’t seen it yet. Bc my phone doesn’t open with the homepage messages.
Whisky is missed. Hope he has a good life with his new ladies in the hedge.

the comedy of contractor errors continues: this morning someone from the same firm turns up to spread topsoil and reseed the area, not knowing that the pipe is still leaking. Left hand-right hand non-communication issues, or just because no-one in the firm does anything between 5pm on Friday and 10am on Monday?

And the topsoil to be delivered is on an 8-wheeler truck that can't get up the lane to the house. :th

Since topsoil and grass seed won't be needed till the leak is actually fixed, the pair of them aborted their jobs, took videos to show their bosses why they were doing so, and will try again another time, hopefully with the soil on a smaller vehicle.

Wasn't all the new 'smart' technology supposed to make things better? I see an inverse relationship between use of that word and actual ability.
When my mothers broadband was playing up a few years ago (she was with one of the more popular & cheaper providers) they sent out a Bright Sparks engineer. Never was a person more mislabelled (or was under instruction not to replace the modem :idunno).
They said it was the phone line so a BT (British Telecom) engineer visit was arranged. They tested the line which, unsurprisingly was fine & spent a happy hour or so checking all the wiring, bundling up the redundant wires and putting a new connector in all at the expense of the internet provider :lau

So, for the sake of not sending out a new modem in the first place……

Sometimes I despair of the modern world- said the old codger!

Two hours today. Warmish for a while with mostly sunshine.

This picture shows how Henry is getting on.:(

He did come out though. He hardly ate anything, a prawn and a few blueberries while I was there.

This picture of Sylph tucked up tight to Henry and the roosting order with Sylph quite determined to roost next to Henry is hard to watch.
I expected Fret to more concern for Henry. She and Henry have their moments but Sylph is the one who tries to stay with him.
Watching Fret though I've come to the conclusion it's not so much a lack of cocern, it's deliberate and she's prioritizing her daughters invovement with their father. I can't explain this any better.

Henry went to roost an hour ahead of the hens. I cleaned up while he was in the coop. It's odd that C and another person who tried to care for the chickens for a few weeks both report that when they tried to clean out the coop, Henry would come in and try to peck them. It didn't get any more violent than that apparently but it's plain he is sensitive about who does what In his space. Some roosters and a couple of cockerels I've known were sensitive about egg collecting. I've had full attempted strikes from a couple.
