Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Dry, sunny and warm. Two and a half hours today.
I'm managing to sell most of the eggs.
My current plan is to give up my plot and make some improvements to the run between the chicken run and the goose run. In all the pictures below that is where the chickens are. I'm putting up a proper. albeit lightweight fence along the front and back, partly to prevent the chickens getting onto the field and partly to prevent a sudden fox or dog attack while the are out of the coop run. This will hopefully mean that J and the eldest and the group treasurer can let the chickens onto this area and get on with other things on the field without having to woory about the chickens roaming onto a plot in the growing season, or wandering off to somewhere where whoever is supervising can't easily find them.
I'm also retreating into this area and plan to grow some produce, keep a compost heap and grow some bushes, fruit and cover.

Sounds like a good plan if you can make the fence high/safe enough for foxes ! 👍
Just out of curiosity… Did you measure the sqft / m2 run space they will get?

Where is your current plot, in relation to the coop and the proposed new plot? Will the hens still be able to roam freely through the entire area while you're there?

I love the photos (some today, but especially yesterday, where they have created little tunnel trails through the tall grasses and plants; just a little chicken maze where they can chicken. ❤️
I'll take some pictures rather than try to explain with words.:D

It's not a coop run fence. It just needs to be high enough to discourage the hens from flying over and prevent a flat ground attack from dogs and foxes.
I'll measure it again. I've lost the last drawing I made.

Dry, warm and sunny. Two and a half hours today.
Got a couple of posts in and the new fence line cut. The chickens have gained another 9 square metres with the new fence line so far. The treasurer is going to give me a hand over the weekend.
The person with the overgrown rosemary bush who I contacted yesterday came in today and cut the bush back. It was really good of them to act so quickly.
Fret has gone broody.
