Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I have another 5 month old silkie mix going broody! She's all the boy's favorite girl so if she does commit I will let her have a break. I told her she doesn't have to crouch for everyone who asks 😆 View attachment 4175078
They can't resist her gorgeous beard
I'm just a hen that can't say no. I'm in a terrible fix.
Something like that from the film Oklahoma.

Two hours today. A stiff breeze and on and off rain meant Sylph and Mow would be reluctant to venture out for long. They got an hour or so on the field and went to roost early enough for me to catch the next earlier bus getting me home half an hour early than of late.

I'm very excited to announce a new way to harass broodies: a portable, USB-charged, clip-on camping fan, aimed right at the nest box! The fan looks huge in the pic, but it's just the perspective: it's maybe 7"/ 18 cm tall, smaller than the chickens.
At least she has stopped panting...

Brilliant! Let me know if it works!

It's pretty much all I have until tomorrow, when the dog crate gets delivered!

She has gone out into the yard several times, scratching and doing chicken things, but it doesn't last long. At least the other two started staying sort of near her. They've been regarding her the way someone might whose new college roommate turned out to be the Linda Blair character (Regan) from The Exorcist.

We need to set up a zoom meeting or something for them to explain this to my lot.

Feels like they've realised the solstice has passed and they need to take advantage of every hour of daylight now before days get much shorter.

I have just wasted a ridiculous amount of time trying to imagine a Zoom chicken meeting. For one thing, they would never mute themselves!

It did make me flash back to this amazing cartoon:
