One and a half hours today. An easy stroll from the eldests house to the field and back. Eldest's husband picked me up from my flat in the morning and youngest drove me home in the evening.
I've had a difficult week leading up to Christmas day, family stuff over half a century old that one of my siblings has dragged up from the past has stirred up all sorts of resentment and malice. I needed what was as usual a lovely day with the eldest and husband, youngest and nephew and the girls mother, plus a few drop by guest in the morning. They do it every year, no drama, friendly loving people making the day a pleasure for all.
The cake. Well it was heavy man. It tastes okay; the no added sugar while strange didn't detract from the overall decent taste but the cake needs to be lighter and I'm not sure how one goes about achieving that with winter cakes like this. Five out of ten is my mark.
The cauliflower cheese I made on the other hand was as the eldest put it, banging.:D Nine out of ten.
The pate worked well as did the marinated olives and the roasted parsnips. Verdict on the nut roast won't be in until the 28th.
It was nice to be able to help out with the cooking and take a bit of the load off the eldest.

Tull's comb and wattles are getting reder. She's eating more but still not enough in my estimation. They'll have their Christmas dinner tomorrow.
