Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

Two and a half hours today. A bit chilly but plenty of sunshine.

The pop door of the coop didn't open this morning. Hopefully it's my fault due to having had to make some repairs last night and not setting it up properly.
What's good about this is I asked one of the file members who walks thier dog in the morning and visits the field on route to just check the chickens have got out.
They contacted the treasurer who contacted J who has the gate combination and the treasurer went over the road and let them out. He lives a stones throw away.

Knowing that at least on some days someone will check takes a lot of pressure off me. In the event that none of the above people can let the chickens out, at least I'll know and can get to the field usually and sort the problem out without having the chicken locked in the coop all day.

That is a relief.
My concern of dieing is that no one will figure it out untill all the animals are dead...well the turkeys in the trees might figure out to leave but the poultry in coops would die of dehydration. Same with the dog.

Yup, it's a problem I'm only to aware of. It's what I am trying to avoid at the field. I'm 70 in March and like you, live alone. The eldest and I are in contact daily and she knows what to do in the event I drop dead.:D

I had a similar thing with the playhouse. I knew the batteries where low at 20%. And was stupid not to check daily or just replace the batteries then and there.

One morning 3 chickens were trapped inside. They had two small bowls in there with water and feed. Bc I never trust systems for 100%. That morning I didn’t look until 11 am. The Amrocks tried violently to open the window above the pop door. They seemed not amused.
We expect the wise roosterist to be around a while, no dead dropping allowed :old
Right!
69 is still sort of young. Last week I went to a funeral for a final goodbye to a friends father who stayed around until 3 days after his 96 birthday.
