Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

talking of which, yesterday I got my first sight of baby galls. Thank you Doug Tallamy for opening up this world of mini-bugs on the oak for me. I'm still gonna miss masses, because my microscope days are behind me (for vision and dexterity reasons), but I still am amazed to know that even something as small as a gall wasp can have another even smaller wasp parasitize it! (And I expect the chickens eat all of them if they catch them.)

Good grief! Not keen on gooseberries.:thI love gooseberries. There are red and green growing at the field.
Gooseberry fool is nice as are gooseberry sticky inside meringuies with gooseberry filling and filo pastry gooseberry pie.:drool
Don’t forget gooseberry crumble!
:drool

rhubarb, which grows like a weed on my allotment despite my best efforts over several years (gave lots of dug up clumps away)!
aagghh! Always the way! I love rhubarb, tried to grow it several times, even have an old terracotta forcing pot, but it just won't grow here. I think the shrews or voles like it too much.

In my opinion the thing to do is force manufacturers/food companies etc to not use plasitc. So much of the packaging just isn't necessary in the first place.
In my opinion they need to tax new plastics (from oil) with 200% and use the income to cut taxes for the recycling/re-use plastics factories and the recycled products (not factories who down-cycle it, like using it for tiles) .

There was a manufacturer in the Netherlands that did a great job, made all kind of packaging plastics, but couldn’t survive bc the new plastic was cheaper. 😖
