Completely understand this. Happened to me too a couple of times.

We have splendid weather here. Happy chickens and the daisies started to bloom at the edges of the lawn/grass field.

We have a saying in the Netherlands:
Maai mei niet. Translated: Mow May not. To give the flowers a chance to bloom and multiply, and help the bees and other foraging insects .

PS Maai mei niet in writing was translated above. If you listen it sounds the same as Mow me not.
Its not an old but a new saying launched by a foundation to preserve nature (not sure which one it was).

It would be lovely if I could turn up one day soon and find all the fruit bushes in the picture above moved and thrivng in the extended run.

I presume you wait till fall to relocate the fruit bushes? In the Netherlands gardeners recommend to relocate plants, late fall or winter, to give the bushes a better chance to survive.

My chickens ar no humble conservationists. They think the easy to catch are yummie treats. Bees are possibly safe bc they can sting?

my chickens are filling up on those buggers too because it’s the only thing pushing my husband to get more (chickens that is). I do hope they’re not eating too many caterpillars but they can have allllll the ticks.

We have a similar initiative in the US - No-Mow May. Is supported by various non-profit groups, not by the government of course.

The problem with not mowing until after May is the height of the grass and natives is too much for most mowers. I have some now that is waist high. It will grow taller than me if I don't cut. Then I have to wait until a drought so it's really dry or it clogges up the deck.
I usually mow the bottom that floods as often as I can. I try to keep the front mowed. I mow paths through the poultry yard and some open areas....around the coops nothing growing

We last mowed April 30. It’s a challenge this year because of the heat and rain!

Luckily we have three hungry pullets who have taken on the challenge.
