Should Marans have feathered legs?

Debi is right, Marans should have feathered shanks. There are Marans that are clean legged and we all get them from time to time. We don't get them very often, but once in a while we have one pop up. Our show standards call for lightly feathered down the outside of the legs and onto the outer toes. If you are interested in raising show quality Marans, I wouuld suggest that you select your breeding stock based on the Breed Standards.

Good Luck,

If you buy them from a breeder who has a clean legged rooster but he does put out feather legged chicks, could these chicks be bred to a feather legged maran with good results. Or should you pass on them?
