Show Off Your Games!

****** Roundheads coming along

about nine weeks ago I shared some pics of baby chicks that were sent to me as eggs through the mail. Advertised as Harold Brown Gray on ebay. Anyhow, here they are at nine weeks of age. They are so flighty compared to my daughter's Cochin chickens that are three weeks older and kept seperately. If these guys ever get out on me, I might never catch them again! Anyhow, yes, I see three roosters here...So I need to either find new homes for two of them or seperate them to new pens by themselves. Just wanted to share. These are the first American Games I've ever owned.

It's kind if obvious you're gonna have to single pen stags. And with a lil work they'll calm down. Think of them kind of like dogs. If you get a press canario don't expect it to act like a beagle. Different chickens have different purposes but all are good for their intended purpose. A Cochin is a show, pet whereas a game is usually penned up by itself for life, more wild.

Pick one out. You can tame one of those guys done to a level you can't match with a Cochin. The pullets will also be easy. If interested I can describe how.

when they were still in the brooder I would hand feed them grated boiled egg which they loved. But it's been a while since I moved them to the farm. They settle down quickly after I show up, but that first reaction is to take to the air and fly around the pen like wild birds. They will get better in time I am sure.

how much and where do you live I'd like to get one if I can

I assume they are in a pen together. Get a lawn chair and a book plus a treat of some sort. Insects are best. Go set next to pen and make so you can see birds from corner of your eye. After sitting there reading for a bit through an insect in. A minute or two later repeat. They should not only calm down but also begin investigating you for for eats. Repeat this over a few days for about 15 to 30 minutes each time. You have them eating out of your hands in no time. At some point you will want to isolate stags; that is when you can can make real headway.

I use some of my birds for teaching kids, literally hundreds in a day. A cock or hen has to be in close contact with everyone of those kids and for many the birds are walking around without restraint among the crowd. Follow first suggestions and once birds eating out of your hands ask again for next steps. Games can learn a lot more and faster than other breeds.

Great info, and yes, I imagine this would work quite well. Once they know where the source of those tid bits are! I imagine if I did this they would learn very quickly as for the first few weeks of life they ran toward my hand when I showed up at the brooder. It was getting out in the pen and my not keeping up the treats that was the downfall. I'll tame em down again.
