Hard Feather : the feathers lay close to the bird and minimal under plumage. Like American Game fowl and Asian hard feather breeds.

Soft Feather: the underplumage is more pronounced and the outer plumage doesn't lay as close to the body. Like Marans, Orpingtons, Sussex, Barnevelder, etc.
