I have a two year old buff orpington that has a purple comb towards the back. She is skinny and hasn't been eating or drinking much the last couple of days. We moved her in wormed her and gave her electrolytes and noticed she has a urine/ammonia smell coming from her. She isn't completely lethargic she walks around jumps on the highest roost. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Two things come to mind with a smell... Coryza or a sour crop. First, please check that her crop is empty in the morning and report back. Glad to hear still has energy.

Her crop is soft doesn't seem to have anything in it.

Hmmm... and no other symptoms? Is her vent nice and clean? Is her breathing normal? When was the last time she laid an egg? Sorry about the questions, it’s just hard to tell what’s going on. I haven’t heard of the urine smell before, so I’m not sure what it means. Could she have gotten into a toxin of some kind?

Her vent area was dirty so I soaked her for 30 minutes in warm water. Afterwards the vent looked normal. I felt for an egg and didn't feel one. She may have laid an egg this weekend. she seems to be breathing normal. I put some VetRx under her wings. I don't see how she could have gotten into anything toxic.

Hi @swadle
Do you have any photos of her so we can see her comb?
Can you tell where the smell is coming from?
Photos of the poop would be good too.
What did you worm her with?

An ammonia/urine smell sounds like a kidney problem. Do you notice if she has any bloat or feeling of fluid in the abdomen - is her butt draggy?
Getting a fecal sample tested would be a good idea if you have a vet. Do the best you can to get her drinking. Offer her her normal feed along with a little chopped egg or tuna for protein. If you have poultry vitamins, add those to her water as well.

The comb is fine the morning and by night time it gets purple on at least the back 1/4. Last night she had some stuff stuck to her around her vent so I soaked her in warm water. Her vent looked fine. I am not sure what you mean by draggy though. I will try egg this morning. Here is a picture of her head this morning.

Sorry. I wormed her with Safeguard. I believe the smell was from the crusty stuff by her vent. She seems to smell better this morning. She hasn't ate for awhile so no poop available.
