Sick duck

Also keep her inside where it’s not freezing outside if you can keep her warmer it helps her get well faster I don’t know where you live so I don’t know if it is freezing out or not but also
You can start giving her calcium gluconate 1ml per day to help what’s left in her to come out -
- Talk the vet and see if she thinks that might help. Having sharp pieces of egg shell inside isn’t good . Or maybe hopefully it was a soft shell that popped.

We did take her to the vet and they did X rays, they said that they wanted to do exploratory surgery but she'd be awake the whole thing since anesthesia doesn't work on ducks or somwthing like that and I don't want to put her through that. Not only that the closest duck surgeon is 6 hours away since they're considered exotic. We do keep a heat lamp with them so they are warm. We gave her a warm bath yesterday and kept her inside all day yesterday so she had a nice break.

We give them a mix of worms, calcium (now since she got sick) and other seeds. We give them something else too but I just can't remember
I hope the something else is duck feed …? Not just worms and seeds & calcium I hope?
A good duck feed or waterfowl feed will prevent nutritional deficiencies that lead to all kinds of illnesses and problems

@Jenbirdee tagged me but I have no experience of ducks getting egg bound. My flock is all drakes, and any females I rescue are found new homes to quickly move on to. My son has a drake and 4 females and none has become eggbound (touch wood!)

Hasn't @BelovedBirds experience a duck being egg bound? Can @Canadian Wind help?

For a duck that has sepsis, as @Gigib's duck has, keeping her warm and quiet, giving the antibiotic as prescribed, and feeding nutritious food are important. I would certainly keep a v sick duck in a pet carrier in my house. I turn my bathroom into an emergency ward whenever its necessary.

I am hearing that your priority is her comfort. Ok. So let's focus on that. We might not be able to fix her up. we can try what we can and we can focus on her feeling warm, safe, calm and loved. So inside is great, closeness is great, warmth is wonderful...you are doing all that. Just breath and focus on your objective. You have got this.

I went to the vet today and was told my mallard had an egg popper inside her and her body was infected and that she has a low chance of survival. Has anyone dealt with something like this? We have her on antibiotics and medicine to try and deal with the infection inside of her but I'm just worried. We feed her lots of protwin and nutrients but I just want to know what else we can do.

I wanted to add that her stomach is hanging pretty low and we thought she was egg bound but it turns out she just had an egg popper inside her :( I hope she'll get better since we only have two ducks right now and are wanting to get more but we'd have to get chick's and it take a while for them to grow and I dont want my other duck to be lonely
Has she passed the egg shell/contents, or is this still inside of her? Treating the infection is extremely important but if there is a shell left inside that is dangerous and should be removed by the vet.
If there is no shell, did the vet give her anything to help her to push out the egg contents?

Is she eating/drinking?
