Sick flock treatment (eyes & respiratory)

Only the one cochin had all those scabs, both sets of pictures are her. No one else looks like her. She has the scabs and blood in the ears. I just did peroxide & triple antibiotic ointment.
Swollen around eyes, and some silkies are dry on their face. Foam in only 2 birds' single eye. Bubbles in 1 birds single eye.
I don't see bugs, no pus.
What kind of bacterial infection could it be (if not MG)?... or allergies...
I clean the coops & runs often, which raises a ton of dust.
Also, we just turned the swamp cooler on recently, possibly it could have got something in their eyes...?
They're not coughing, wheezing, sneezing, etc.
It's very targeted to silkies & cochins. No polish (except the 1 rooster), and that eye cleared up quickly.

Oh, then I don't know.

You can try treating with the medications as suggested in post#30.
Ok, thank you! Just trying to wrap my head around it all. I'm hoping they just got something from turning on the swamper. I'll be honest, when we turned it on, it looked like a fire, there was so much dust! 😬 I wish we would've cleaned it out better before turning it on! A big learning lesson. We hosed it a bit, but it was mostly the dust that had collected in front of it and inside the front panel. I'll keep everyone posted. Thank you!

I suspect a mild case of Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG) in your flock. Consider using Tylan or Denagard (Tiamulin). Maintain a closed flock.
Where do I buy Tylan or Denagard (Tiamulin)?
I don't see it at Jedds.com, do they sell it?

Maybe your search functions don't work very well?

Tylan/Tylosin at Jedd's.

You can find Tiamulin (Denagard/Tiagard) on Amazon.
Great! Thank you!
So, I'd been looking so closely daily, and had not seen any bugs. But tonight when I looked, a bunch of the girls with issues (they are staying in nesting boxes, and not on perches) had a ton of face mites! They were especially congregated on the scaby spots. So I'm hoping/ praying those were the actual issue. And that they're not just secondary to the sickness just lowering their immune systems. So I just powdered them with Permethrin powder.

Most Mites live in the housing waiting in nooks/crannies to come out and feed at night on the birds.

You'll want to thoroughly clean out all bedding and nesting boxes. Burn bedding or throw it away in closed trash bags, don't compost it.

Spray down your coop/housing with a Permethrin based poultry spray making sure to get into cracks/crevices, roosting bars, nesting boxes, etc. Repeat in 5 day intervals to help break the cycle. Mites can be very hard to eliminate so it may take weeks to start seeing the numbers reduced.

Dusting the birds can help kill the mites that have gotten on them and perhaps deter some and give the hens relief, but you'll still want to eliminate the mites at the source which is the housing.

Hi! Thank you!

Yes! Definitely!
I've dealt with mites many times (since I always have silkies). I already did all bedding/ nesting boxes this morning, first thing. I did a good dusting on the girls (and boys). I had already done ivermectin, so waiting for day 10 to do it again. I gave them a fresh dust bathing tub. I threw away all bedding and anything else scooped up, picked up, raked up. I know that one good! I did have a harder time getting rid of them last year. I like your other method too, I'll add that in. I've never bought a spray, do you have a recommendation... that can be shipped in/to California? I saw one on Amazon, but it wouldn't ship to me.

Yeah, while Ivermectin will help treat Mites, the downside if the Mites have to feed on the bird to get "the treatment", so you're birds are bitten and have irritation. Same with any other treatment applied to the birds when dealing with mites.

Eliminating the mites from the housing is key.

I'm not sure what you can get in California. You have feed stores right? Ask for Permethrin 10 or similar, you should be able to get that online or stores like TSC.
