So a few days ago I saw one of my hens falling off a branch that was breaking. My daughter got from the tree and she looked dead- on her side eyes closed and everything. I held her and she came through. I isolate her right away. She seamed in shock. The next day (yesterday) we gave her Epson salt bath and found a few mites so treated for those. But still won't take food or water. We fed her stuff with a dropper- vetrx, recovery 911 and today egg yolk. She has very runny poop.
Any idea what's wrong with her? She was free ranging. We found a rotting wild pig near where they range- wondering if she ate that and is now sick?
See her eye...I pulled it down and don't see any infection.

Hard to know exactly what is going on. Mites can cause anemia and extreme weakness. What did you treat the mites with? Eating rotting meat could lead to botulism or other poisoning. Sometimes a flush of Epsom salts can be given to rid the body of toxins. Epsom salts 1 tsp in 10 ounce/30 ml of water given with a syringe is what Azygous recommends. Some use 1 tsp in a cup of water. I would feed her sugar water for shock, but the electrolytes and water are good. How does her crop feel? Has she been laying eggs? Have you wormed her lately? Does she lay eggs?

Actually forgot to mention it was an Epson salt bath. She laid an egg yesterday after the bath actually. She had no signs of being sick before 2 nights ago. I just do natural stuff not prescribed dewormer...mainly because I don't know how to get it (no chicken vets around here) and when to use it.

I also gave her sugar water. I've tried alot of things but haven't tried flushing with Epson salt in the water- Im kinda worried that might make her sicker with running poop. Crop is empty

What did you treat the mites with? Yes, Epsom salts can cause diarrhea, but it can help flush out any toxins.
permethrin. I've had to deal with mites before...free rangers get them often in the wet environment of Hawaii. But I don't belive it was bad and I only saw one but thought I better go ahead and dip her after her Epson bath.
