Hey everyone!!

I have 3 sick peafowl and I don’t know what to do for them. My male got sick first. His only symptoms were really that he was coughing and he was laying around a lot during the day. He would roost at night, but stay on the ground most of the day.

Now my hens are sick. I have one that is “gaping.” She’s also coughing and has bubbles in her eyes and is on the ground. My other hen is still roosting but I hear her coughing and noticed small bubbles in her eyes as well.

I bought some doxy-tyl to put in their water, will that help? I don’t watch them all day every day so I don’t know if they’re drinking or not but is there a way to make sure they get the medicine in them? Can I put some in a syringe and put it down their throat?

I love these birds and I don’t want to lose them but I don’t have an avian vet nearby and no way to get like la-200 or anything like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The symptoms sound like possible mycoplasma (MG.) Tylosin and Denagard are common antibiotics used to treat, and doxycycline is sometimes used. The doxy-tyl is a combo of doxycycline and tylosin. I usually prefer just one antibiotic at a time, but you could try it. Tylosin is put in the water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days. You cannget it from jedds.com. I would follow the directions on your package for the doxy-tyl. Usually I would place the bird getting medicated inside a dog crate with food and medicated water during the daytime, and let her rooster with her flock at night.

So we’ve made it through the day. I saw my male drink last night and he seems to be feeling some better today. One hen is like my male was and just coughing and kind lethargic but she’s roosting. My other hen seems by far the worst out of the three. She has droopy wings and coughing and when I went to check on them a few minutes ago one of her eyes was matted shut. I force fed both of the hens some of them medicated water earlier today and I plan to do that again tomorrow. Here’s hoping that between the antibiotic and their immune systems they can fight this off!
