My hen of 5-6(?) years have recently been undergoing some health concerns. One week ago, she looked gravely ill as her face was turning from red to white and weak. She has since been on meds (Drontal 1/2 pill and Albon) since Monday diagnosed of having coccidiosis (vet says very little was seen) and possible infection. For most of the day before noon, she's just laying down. She ignores her feed and fruits she loves. She has diarrhea, just watery poops with some white which is my concern. Appears too that she's molting so for her afternoon snack, she's given some bits of chicken, treats, and her feed. She eats those well. She drinks a lot of water. By evening, she comes inside the house so I can keep a close eye on her. In the morning, there's always solid poop. Please help me to understand what is going on. I know she's just not her normal self in the mornings. Is it the side effects of the meds? The albon at .5ml is given once a day in the evenings. I had a CBC test done on her yesterday but she was so dehydrated that the blood was not enough to get a hematology reading. Report shows some electrolyte imbalance, mainly potassium and phosphorus, and dehydration. Was told to give her Pedialyte with citrus to help with dehydration and fruits (which she ignored). I have been giving her a vitamin/electrolyte added to her water for a week.
I don't know what else I can do to help her. Please Help, thank you.

Unfortunately, that's a problem here. We have limited veterinarians that work with birds. I just called one of the vets that prescribed the meds and he's the only one that is knowledgsable and he's not working today but will be back on Monday. The other vet I see, is a mobile vet and she's one that I have a hard time contacting. Yesterday she said she didn't know what was causing her diarrhea and to give her Pedialyte and fruits. My hen only seems to perk up in the afternoons.

At her age, if she is 6, she may be suffering from a reproductive disorder. Crop problems can be common as well. Does she lay eggs anymore? So she eats okay in the afternoon and is drinking well, but doesn’t eat much in the mornings? Is her crop full in the evening, and empty by the next morning? Can you check her lower belly between her legs for any swelling or enlargement?

Stop the Drontal immediately, it is a wormer and shouldve only been given one dose. Five days treatment with Albon (Sulfadimethoxine) is all that is needed to treat a variety of poultry bacterial infections, including cocci.
Give your hen buttermilk mixed with chopped boiled eggs or buttermilk mixed in feed for several days. It should clear up the diarhhea, provide fresh water to drink without anything added to it.

Since she's been on the Albon since Monday - none. No eggs. She eats very well in the afternoon and always drinking water or her vitamin water. In the mornings she is given scrambled eggs. She eats half of one cooked egg. Her crop is full in the evening and empty in the mornings. No sign of anything else. Vet said yesterday, everything feels normal and looks healthy except no idea about her diarrhea.

She was given only 1/2 of Drontal pill on Monday and that's it. The Albon was directed to give until gone and we started her on it from Monday.

I've never tried giving her Buttermilk (that is not my favorite either, LOL!). How much buttermilk with one egg? A teaspoon?
