Hello! I've been raising four silkie hens in my (urban) backyard since last July. My dominant hen (Gwyneth Poultry) recently started making an extremely loud 'chattering' or 'cackling' call every few minutes throughout the day; it's somewhat like the sound that kookaburras make. My neighbors and I find it extremely annoying and it's become disruptive for my immediate neighborhood. Does anyone know why hens make this sound? Is there anything I can do to discourage it? Although I love her I'm worried that I'll need to rehome her if I can't get her to stop, or else I may have the police called on me for breaking my city's noise ordinances. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've uploaded a video of her making this noise to YouTube:

Thank you! I appreciate your earlier answer and sorry for not saying so sooner.

Gwyneth ended up going broody and so stopped making that sound (for now). The sound is much quieter than my other silkie's egg song though so hopefully my neighbors will tolerate it. 😅
