A few weeks ago, I noticed the hens have started to make a sound that is a loud, prolonged croak. Most of them do this, and they do it quite frequently. They don't seem to be uncomfortable or upset, but I worry that it means that they're unhappy! I've scoured the internet for more examples of this sound, and only got one result, but it didn't specify what the sound meant.
Here's a video of one of my hens making this sound. Can anyone tell me what it means?

nothing to worry about :) I think it normally has to do with hens saying they see something interesting. but I'm not completely sure. My hens do the same

Just normal chatter. Chickens each have their own unique voices- I know mine so well that I can tell who’s talking without having to look. Some can be rough or croaky and when those birds talk loudly, their rasp will deepen/increase.

Pretty normal. I have some that use that as a greeting or when they are pointing out something interessting.

Remember that they aren't mammals, so a lot of sound cues that sound distressed or hostile to you don't have the same meaning to them. This, for instance, sounds like something that's either dying or getting ready to attack. It is, in fact, one of my roosters signaling to the hens that he's found a cool hidden nest for them to use.
