Hi, found my silkie hen stood outside in the rain when putting them to bed, her face is very swollen and has gunk in her eyes and nostrals, no signs of injury. I thought this may be a respiratory infection but she's not sneezing, gurgling or gasping for air. Haven't been able to cheak on them today due to work but this has happened in the last 24 hours she wasn't like this yesterday afternoon. Now I have cleaned her face she can see and is trying to jump out of her isolation box and is quite active. What is this and how should I be treating it?

Was she out of the coop all night long? Her eye looks almost like her eye is gone or punctured. I would clean her face off with warm wet compress, and rinse her eye with saline or eye wash. Apply a bit of antibiotic ointment into the eye twice a day. Let us know if you can see the eye intact. Have you seen any respiratory diseases in your birds recently? Do you have an antibiotic, such as Tylosin or Denagard. She could be sick with something like MG, but her eye looks punctured. I hope not.

No luckily I noticed her standing in the middle of their field when I went to make sure everyone had gone in the coop. I have cleaned her eyes and they look okay no wounds and she has both eyes. I was worried she couldn't see at all as she didn't flinch when I waved my hand infront but I think because of all the gunk she couldn't :( no respiratory issues lately no signs of any. I dont have any antibiotics no, may have to take her to the vets tomorrow, looks more swollen then it was a couple hours ago

They sell Terramycin eye ointment at the feed stores, which you have to ask for. Also plain Neosporin or Polysporin ointment can be used in a pinch if the other is nit available.

Thank you will have a look today. Overnight the swelling has gone down a bit and shes not so gunky round her eyes, so fingers crossed she will recover 🤞🏻
