Silkies Dustbaths

First time with chicks let alone silkies. My silkies are now over 8 weeks and I have a dustbath with mixes of soft dirt, ashes, and diatomaceous earth in a 2'x3' tub. This should be big enough for all of them to be in. I see them jumping into it but never really use it. Curious as to how old is it when they will start using the dustbath?

Chicks will dustbathe at days old, so yours should get it quickly.
I would, however, throw out your mix there and just get some Peet moss.
Both d.e and ashes cause respiratory issues and dry skin.
