Soup list?? Oh no... let him be someone's pet...

I have a new enigma.. the last of I'm Blue Too and Lil Running Bear's chick hatched yesterday.. 3 out of 7 eggs made it.. but, one hatched a creamy color then went silverish as it dried, and back to light cream when fully dried.. Any idea what color it will be?

Splash? Otherwise not sure.

No one wants extra roosters around here. Needs must on that. Last year one of his brothers actually did go to a home because he was the friendliest of the bunch and the lady needed a new rooster. Predator had got the one she'd got from me about 5 years ago.

If I were closer I would take it... I see the quality of your birds and wouldn't hesitate. Pet or not!
Here's a fun thing... These kids are 4.5 weeks old.. Count the 'no-tails' They are all F1 or F2 silkie crosses.. I've got some fluffy butts, but mostly hard feathered kids.

What would cause some to not have a bit of tail yet? One mother has a very rounded rump, but I'm not sure they are all hers from the leg feathering. Sioux's (the hen pictured) niece looks exactly like her, but has heavier leg feathers.
Love this lil peeper from another pen. Buff and Blue partridge

It seems to be random for me on tails growing in. Ive had it happen on both male and females. Then poof... tail

As of now i have a broody silkie, Sunny, her eggs should hatch tomorrow... wish her luck!! I also have my two roos of course and my half silkies, Cuddles- girl, Stone- boy. We gave Timber- unknown, away to some friends, and some of our eggs we gave as ab-day present hatched too. SOOO love the breed.

ALSO, for the predator thing, i have a story.
My silkie rooster is a savior. We had an old, sick hen who was too weak to run ( she died today, actually) was prey to a vulture. It flew down towards her, and as she limped away, this little rooster ran out and made a big fuss. I ran out of the house to help, when i saw that the vulture was sitting on the bantam, i thought he was dead, but when i shoed the vulture away, he popped up, and ran to check that the old hen was okay. He is a sweetheart, and always nice to the other ladies.

What a sweet and lovely rooster you have there! If only my dear sons were like that!:gig

First and foremost - ABSOLUTELY NO HATING ON SILKIES ALLOWED!!! If you aren’t here to support our fuzzy friends, don’t respond. :)

Silkies get a bad rap for the following:
"Looks like a dust mop"
"Too hard to maintain"
"Poor immune system"
"Dumber than rocks"
"0 predator awareness"
And oh, so much more.

Well my friends - I thought so too, until I actually got silkies for myself. These are some of the most wonderful birds out there.

I’ve found them to be highly heat tolerant, wonderful mothers, having the strongest immune systems in my Bantam flock, GREAT LAYERS (that’s right folks), adorable as all get out, and more. :D

I currently have 9 silkies - and my rooster has been nothing but a gentleman to his ladies. They free range daily and I’ve not had a silkie get killed by a predator yet. My hens average 5 eggs a week - not too bad for a silkie, eh? :)

Most of the time, these silkie haters haven’t even owned the breed, but rather pretend they know everything.

So... let the fun begin! Support our silkies! :woot

Pictures always welcome. :)

Be mindful, and respect others...

Off-topic discussions are allowed, though try to maintain the subject of silkies.
