The last three young pullets from last fall are now laying too! I've got a mess of eggs to cook up and give back as treats now. Plus (I wasn't going to hatch any this year but) 15 going in the incubator from new layers! Just got to see what they'll produce. Last hatch is looking good to me. I'm surprised to get straight reds and red pyles from my red partridge pen though. Thought the partridge gene was stronger than that!

Well, drat! I carried some chicks to town and ran out of chicks before I ran out of customers.. One couple followed me home and took the last 3 chicks Plus a nice roo. Got eggs in the bator, and 8 pullets/hens a sittin'. Come onnnnnnnnn... I won't take them to town until they are at least 4 weeks old... don't want them getting sick.

There's something strange going on in my incubator.. Yesterday I saw 3 chicks that had internally pipped. Woke up at 3am for the normal bathroom run and no chick. Woke up at 6 am and had one in the incubator. They aren't pipping 24 hours before hatch.. Just waiting until the last hour or so and pip, zip and out they come. Anyone else see that?

I've had that happen with silkies. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to it.

Why couldn't he have hatched a proper partridge. Mother was half partridge in her makeup but was black and father was partridge. He hatched black. He's also only an F2. That hen has great looking chicks.

He has good body shape. No split wing and a very proper tail. Even has a good colored comb which partridge have an issue with. Just doesn't have a proper colored saddle or wings. He's also a sweetheart and gentleman.

He'll be going in with every red head girl I have for awhile this year in hope of getting some good looking partridge with red heads and not his moorhead. Nice and dark on the black parts would be great on roosters. I'll put him with some other hens after that

OMG, you have me laughing so hard right now.. Let me show you some colors I got from 4 black poofy headed ladies and a blue partridge roo... Note: the red partridges are from my red partridge project pen.

How in the world did I get a white one, and a cream colored chick. I can see getting various shades of blue.. but cream??? Love the little black bugger with the silver poof on him..he/she was born older than snot.

BTW, I took the calico splash out of his pen and put in Romeo, a proper black partridge to mate with the 3 ladies in the pen.. I had to chase after the neighbor's dog to get him back.. Danged dog ran right past me with Romeo in his mouth.. wasn't easy running up hill at my age, but I got Romeo back.. He came running out of the woods straight at me... Save me, save me! So he's tailless at the moment, but that didn't stop him from jumping bones.. Also replaced Lil Bear with a nice black boy with a golden collar. I'm hoping to get proper black partridges from Poof Poof and Romeo.. She covers a lot of faults (he doesn't have a good crest, and his tail is mediocre).. She produces great babies.. Her blue daughter is in with the black roo, Shadow) . Blue Bonnet is the spitting image of Poof Poof in shades of blue.

I think this is my best rooster out of my Halloween Hatch.

This other one that's the same color his tail cushion is almost nonexistent.

These two where questionable roosters but I think they are.

The closest one is the rooster, the one in back I'm sure is female.

The blue red with the abrupt tail connection.
