Silver Appleyard Ducks

I did NOT know that saxony were on the critical list! I was given a trio by a friend and just love them. Have saxony/cayuga and saxony/blk swede ducklings now, but will separate these as a breeding group for awhile. And cute little flock, btw!!

This is my appleyard gang. Wondered what your thoughts were on them? They are the best ducks ever. I'm working on growing my breeding group. I have 35 in the bator now. First time hatching so I'm crossing my fingers. They were a few weeks old when I got them so I'm not sure what they looked like as babies.

I didn't realize that any of the appleyards come with mallard markings. We have two dumped ducks at the lake that are either part snowy mallard or part silver appleyard and all their ducklings look like mallards, none have the stripe down their back.

Considering how big they are- totally flightless. Mine can't even catch air going to downhill. haha

Hello, I am thinking about getting some ducks with my chickens. Do I need to live by water? I am above Placerville, CA. I will do more research before I get them as to what I need. We had a small pond in Sacramento so it will not be a problem to build a pond. I would only want two, and having the ones who
do not fly away would be so wonderful. Thank you for any information.

I am just jumping on board to the Silver Appleyard boat! Just bought and received, yesterday in fact 9 Silver Appleyards from Holderread Farm! I bought 9 that are 3 months old that are Elite Show Quality. I am hoping that I will be able to produce some nice offspring from them and really help to promote the breed!
I'm going to need some help since I'm just starting out! I raise show quality silkies, and I am brand new to ducks

Is your appleyard a call duck? I've heard of calls with the restricted light pattern of a silver appleyard. My silver appleyard drakes are about 12 lbs, and I can fly better than they can. ;-)
