Can anyone with a Silver-Spangled Hamburg comment on the volume of their crow relative to other breeds? Or.... are they all really loud? I have one that is about 9 weeks old. He has not crowed yet that I have heard. I will have to give him away unless he is unusually quiet. Thanks.

I only have a silver spangled hen but she is very quiet. She very rarely makes any noise at all! But she loves to roost on my head!!!!

From what i understand after talking to other rooster owners that specific breeds can have similarities in their crow but ultimately it falls to the individual bird and not the breed he is. I know this does not help at all. I would just wait and see how loud he is. My rooster does not crow much and to keep him from crowing in the early A.M. I put him in a large dog kennel inside my garage at night so he does not know when the sun is up. It has worked great! He has now gone to the farm where he can crow whenever he wants but while was in the city coop that routine worked really well. Good Luck

Here is a Pic of my boy Champ:

I have 1 Silver Spangled Hamburg roo, and he is Earpiercingly Loud!! He puts my other two roosters to Shame. You do not want to stand next to this roo while he is Crowing!! But loudness aside he is a gorgeous boy!!

Those are pretty boys!! Thanks for the info. I guess I will let him learn to crow and see how it goes. As far as the kennel, do they crow mostly in the morning or also randomly throughout the day?

They definitely go throughout the day

My neighbor's roo starts around 9 and usually does it sporadically throughout the day until dusk. I personally love it, but many people do not.

Thanks for the info. I like the idea of putting him in a kennel, but it sounds a bit iffy. I will keep him for fun and watch him learn to crow, and I am now convinced he will need a new home after that.

I live out in the country on 5 acres...all our neighbours have little farmlets also...I have a baby RIR roo, and a baby SS hamburg roo and a baby salmon faverolle roo...hopefully the boys wont upset the neighbours to the point of having to get rid of them!
