what is this & what should I do?
-She is about 5-6 days old
-the area is red and swollen/has a lump but not hot
-she’s eating, drinking, and active
I’m a 1st time chicken mama and I bought 3 Rhode Island Reds and 2 “Rainbows” (this one being a “rainbow”) from tractor supply 3 days ago. Thankfully, the others are doing well, but im so worried for her 🥺

I'm not exactly sure what has happened to the chick. I see no evidence of feather picking nor burns from a heat lamp.
I suspect it's some sort of defect, perhaps genetic. It might be in your best interest to return the chick to TSC and ask for a refund or replacement. I've forgotten their return policy, it's been awhile since I've bought chicks from TSC.

Thanks for the info. Is there any possibility that it’s a blocked crop? If i take her back to TSC do you know what would they do with her?
