I, must thiweekend, got some 2mo pulled from a breeder. Yesterday and today I noticed some alight swelling just behind one of the little gal's eyes, it wasnt there when we picked her out. Otherwise she's normal, eating, drinking, preening, and pooping- I checked in her mouth and no issues there. Her eyes are clear and nostrils seem fine as well. I'm not sure what could be the cause, if they hit their heads would that cause swelling? My only thought is she got scratched or knocked around a bit when they caught her. We recently have had a string of bad luck with medical issues, so I'm feeling very paranoid about eveey little thing.

She may have been pecked or bumped as you say. Look for any bubbles or foam in the eye which could be a sign of a respiratory disease. Keep her separated in quarantine. Did she come with others or do you have others in your flock.

I had the same issue. I agree it could be a number of things but my first guess would be raspatory since it is unfortunately common. good luck with her eye!

We got her Saturday with 2 others, they are already in quarantine and can't be further separated. I will keep an eye on it and see how it develops.

I spoke with the hatchery, we're applying neosporin to the area in case it is topical, and will be getting some vet rx as well per their instructions. We also have some generic antibiotics left over from a hen who recently had surgery for impacted crop that they advised us to use. The little lady hasn't gotten any worse, isn't showing symptoms as of yet other than the bump on her face, so I'm hoping this will help clear everything up.

If it is respiratory, she may have secretions in her nostrils and eye drainage or foam. Do you know the generic name of the antibiotics? I would not use an antibiotic unless she develops bubbles or foam in either eye, or other respiratory symptoms (rattles, crackle, sneezing, gasping.) Tylosin, Denagard/Tiamulin, or tetracyclines are the ones that may treat respiratory disease such as MG.

So far I've only seen clear liquid from her nostrils, but I honestly can't tell if it's actually discharge or just from drinking because its not constant. She has been sneezing, but only a handful of times in the past few days (Maybe 5 times total that I've seen). I dont hear any wheezing or crackling either, and when I checked her throat it looked normal and clear. The antibiotic is Bactrim- it's left over a hen who needed crop surgery a few weeks ago. I believe we also have some tiagard we can add to their water if needed. I am hesitant about the antibiotics since we have the dosage for a full sized hen, not a tiny 2mo. Is there a danger there if she got too large of a dosage? The vet told us we can keep it shelf stable for the next few weeks "incase anything popped up" so I assumed it wasn't too much of an issue.
